My Occupation

Teaching philosophy and ethics tutorials at University

My Hobbies

Music: I enjoy listening to classical music especially Puccini's "Nessun Dorma", Rachmaninov's 2nd and 3rd Piano Concerto's, Tchaikovsky's 1st Piano Concerto & the 1812 Overture, Mozart's Requiem Mass in D Minor (esp. Lacrymosa), and any kind of brass band music. I was taught to play the cornet (looks like a squashed trumpet) by my Granddad when I was ten and played in a brassband for a few years since. While I don't play at the moment my love for brass and classical music is still strong. I also enjoy listening to alternative music like Nightwish and rock music. Anything that gets played on the radio I am almost guaranteed to hate!

Writing: I am a writer at heart and enjoy taking creative licence so academic writing takes a bit more care and effort because it's not what I'm used to writing or prefer to write, even though it's part of my job. Most of my non-academic writing at the moment is spent on writing fanfiction as a means of practicing my skills and keeping them alive, as I don't really have the time to put into proper writing projects.

Philosophy: Even though it's a part of my job it's very much a part of who I am anyway. Pondering the 'big questions' fascinates me - not because I want to find the answers or the 'meaning of life' but because I love the way it expands my mind and helps me to touch new horizons and new means of thinking and perceiving and understanding different people's points of view.

Spirituality: As an extremely overly emotional person, I'm interested in developing a spiritual understanding and learning the kinds of skills that comes with it so that I can find my centre and balance and perhaps to learn how to harness the power of this emotion (as a colleague of mine once told me I could).
